I have been very fortunate in being able to lots of pattern designers test their patterns lately as they get ready for the busy fall/winter/holiday season. So today I will show you my tester version of the latest pattern from Sofilantjes, the Iridis dress, as well as a hack/remix I did.
So information about the pattern? Hack? Photos? Ahh, I shall leave you to think about it and come back around. Just kidding! Here a the pattern details for you:
Wrap style dress with multiple sizes and lots of possibility. It is a great project for coordinating scraps. My tester version were all scrap pieces from previous projects that were around 1/2 yard each. You can hem with a rolled hem, fully line the dress or use bias tape.
- Sizes 12m-14y (perfect style for all ages, especially tweens)
- Layers meaning you can print only the size/s you need
- Suitable for woven and knit fabric
- Short and long sleeve option. Also could work great as sleeveless
- Fast sew with easy to understand instructions
- Patterns available in English and Dutch
- Great pattern for color blocking
- Features ties. No buttons, zippers or elastic
This pattern looks intimidating with all the pieces and curves, but it goes together very easy and very fast. If you are a beginner with some patience or adventure, or ready to move on to some curves, then you definitely want to give this a try. There is also a group where you can ask questions and Annemieke and the crew will guide you through any problem areas 🙂
Tester Version in Woven and Short Sleeve
This version was hemmed with bias tape and I made a mistake sewing so it can wrap and tie either way.
After I made the pattern, saw how fast it went together and how beautiful the fit was, my brain went crazy. I was seeing all these beautiful things I could make (which ideas I will not share because I am selfish right now.) I still have a dress in my mind that I will make a reality. But I suddenly had a lightbulb go off: it would make a gorgeous and vintage inspired coat. I had this fur vest waiting to be turned into something spectacular. I was given this fleece back fuschia suiting and I had a black and white damask fleece remnant I scored for $1. So basically, this coat cost $1.
I have been asked to host a sew along for the coat here in the near future, so if you are inspired, get ready, find some amazing fabric and I will walk you through it. I see a wool version in my future.
I fully lined this with fleece and added the fur cuff and shawl collar. I also put a button on the inside. That is it! Oh, and side pockets. Easy peasy, and now the diva child has a beautiful winter coat.
