Sew Straight Patterns has new FREE expansions added to the Uptown Downtown Dress pattern, which gives you 5 more new options, which when you add up all the options. You can get all the expansions to download: Cowl – Long Sleeve – Maxi Length – Pockets – Tank/Cami Top. I LOVE all the additions to the pattern. It was already a very simple and chic pattern, but the additions make the possibilities endless, while still making it just as stylish. You can see my original Uptown Downtown dress I blogged on the tour HERE and her Etage dress HERE.
I knew I had to do a maxi. My girls are all about maxis, and really, how can you be tired of it? I guess I like extremes: long maxis and short vintage style dresses with bloomers/shorts. So with that, I am in California and it is cooler most days now-finally, however, we still have mild weather a lot. This is one of those bittersweet blessings since I love the cool weather, changing leaves and snow! Yes, I am the mad woman who loves snow so long as my bubble baby can keep from getting sick.
Rambling over. I made the maxi version (separate) with tank cami style. I had this amazing silky pleated remnant, and some thin brown knit. The brown knit was thin so I had to make a knee length skirt for underneath. It made for a really fast sew. And the end result? Just perfect! She looks like a little grown up, and well, it is something I would wear myself. The fabric, style and tones made it like a breezy fall dress and a timeless look. I have a long sleeve cowl version cut out that I will share in a couple of days.
She loves the dress and slept in it. They don’t allow maxi dresses at school so she will be trying to wear it as much as possible at home I am sure. The end result is one of my favorites!
