I had a plan to make these for both boys, but it didn’t work out because the oldest was being very troublesome. Almost a teen. Comes with the territory, right?
So I made one for my 10 year old son, Riley and my husband. My husband was pretty excited since I rarely make him anything. Like, meaning, he owns about 3 things made by me. In my defense, he is a big guy which means more fabric and more time sewing. I made them both the hood option because we are West Coast people, and if you didn’t know, People on the west coast LOVE hoodies! It is a mandatory item of clothing.
We do live in an area that gets high winds and colder than normal Southern California temps, so I made them from blizzard fleece and thermal knit. I thought it might end up being too thick, but both turned out just right. Since 3X is the biggest size, and my hubby borders on a 3-4XL because he is a man who wants comfort and likes baggier clothing, I modified it a little. I added about 4 inches to the length and made the pouch bigger to be more proportionate to the add. I also added about 2 inches to the width. When I matched it up with one of his shirts, it was PERFECT! Go me! Then the 10 year old, I made the adult XS, mostly because I was too busy to piece 2 patterns together at the time. Hey, it worked! He got a charcoal gray blizzard fleece with a thermal knit lined hood, and no ribbing. It looks great on him, and I am going to have to fight him to take it off to wash everyday. The husband got black (his go to color) with a blue thermal knit lined hood. I did the ribbing on the arms and band. They are both really happy with the result, and I actually love the shawl style of the hood closure because that makes it very convenient for cold weather and keeping your neck warmer.
I was really surprised how fast it went together, and now I need to go make a ton for the rest of the family. Omni Tempore for me! Omni Tempore for you! Omni Tempores for EVERYBODY! Hey, who says sewing doesn’t make you feel like Oprah?
As you can see, this pattern works with a variety of fabrics and looks great in all of them. This will be a family staple, for sure!
Thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to check out he other bloggers… and give the hubby a round of applause for his blog debut. He will enjoy the ego boost. 🙂  I was hoping to debut the husband, but he has been working his tail off this past week so I could never get photos since he leaves as the sun is coming up and gets home late at night.
