Hand-Me-Down: Summer Breeze

This weeks theme for Project Run and Play is “Hand-me-downs” which I know many of us bloggers are very familiar with. Upcycling is something I started doing before sewing by hacking and frankensteining my clothes in high school. I would sew, but it was all strictly hand sewing then. So I was excited for this theme because I always have an abundance of clothes waiting for a new life story.
Blanks is what I drew though. What can I do that is “different?” Nothing was really standing out to me, and I am not going to lie, I have a lot on my plate right now so it needed to be slightly less laborious.

I decided to finally do something with this gorgeous top I picked up at a thrift store with the intention of making it a pretty breezy skirt. The problem is that it was a tissue voile and very thin so I needed to line it. I hacked the skirt idea and decided that I was going to completely rework the shirt. I had some long ties which I salvaged for a bias look and the straps. I ended up with a tunic inspired by a Cali Faye pattern and used some turquoise and gray pants (turned shants)  to make into some little skinny shorts. It may be the first day of fall, but with it being in the 90s here still, we have time left for some summer inspired pieces.

  2. Such a cute, breezy look–I love how you got a sort of ruffled look across the back. Great prints too!
